Explosive Remnant of War Kills a Child in Ghazni Province –

According to Taliban security sources in Ghazni province, an unexploded ordnance, mortar shell, exploded in the province, killing one child and injuring another.

According to the Bakhtar state news agency on Friday, 20th of May, citing the press officer of police chief in Ghazni, the incident occurred in the area of “Pol-e-Sherkat Barq” belonging to the province’s first district.

The incident happened while the unexploded ordnance shell was being transported by the children to a scrap iron store for the purpose of sale.

Unexploded ordnance and munitions have killed many civilians before, especially children in Ghazni province and across Afghanistan.

According to UNICEF, 301 children in Afghanistan have been killed or injured by explosive remnants of war and landmines in the last seven months. The actual figure is believed to be substantially higher.

Last week, a similar occurrence in western Afghanistan’s Farah province killed one child and injured another.
