According to Subhe Kabul newspaper executives, Ali Akbar Khairkhwah, the newspaper’s journalist and photographer, has been missing in Kabul for the past four days.
An executive with the newspaper said that Ali Akbar Khairkhwah did not return home on Tuesday, the 24th of May, when he left home to prepare a report.
He further explained that the reporter’s friends and relatives had contacted the Taliban security, but that security officials were unaware of the incident.
Since the Taliban took power, Taliban forces have imprisoned, threatened, and beaten a considerable number of journalists and media personnel.
These figures include 80 journalists and media workers from various Afghan provinces, according to the most recent figures from the Afghanistan Journalists’ Center.
According to a recent report released earlier this month by the Afghan Association of Free Journalists, 287 media outlets have been closed and nearly 6,000 journalists have been laid off since the Taliban gained control.
The Afghan Free Journalists Association stated that 122 journalists were beaten between May of last year until May of this year.
