As forest fires rage in Nooristan and Kunar provinces, local sources in Khost province, in the country’s southeast, are reporting fires in the province’s pine nut (Chilgoza) forests.
The Khost province locals told the media that the fire started and spread in the mountain forests of the province’s Musakhaill district early Sunday morning, 12th June.
The fire is spreading, according to locals, and if it is not put out, many pine trees in the Musakhaill district will be burnt and destroyed.
The cause of the fire in Khost province’s forests has yet to be determined, and the Taliban have said nothing about it.
As a result of the increased fires in Nooristan’s forests, the forests of Chapa Dara district in Kunar province caught fire around a week ago.
Due to a lack of resources and facilities, the fire in Norgram’s forests, which borders Kunar’s Chapa Dara district, raged for several days and could not be put out in time.
The Taliban had conceded to being unable to control the fires in the Nooristan forests, and the group’s deputy foreign minister, Abbas Stanekzai, had reached out to China for help in putting out the fires.
