UNOCHA: Germany Contributes €50 Million to Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund –

Waheedullah Sediqzada 1 month ago 1 min read

In its latest humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, Germany provides a contribution of €50 million, according to an announcement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (UNOCHA).

UNOCHA, in a tweet on Wednesday, July 6th, expressed appreciation from Germany for contributing an amount of over €50 Million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF), making Germany the second-largest donor to contribute to AHF.

Germany has also committed to providing Afghanistan with €5 million in aid for 2023, according to OCHA.

“With an additional contribution of €50M to the AHF for 2022 and commitment of €5M for 2023 Germany is supporting emergency life-saving responses to assist the people in need in Afghanistan,” UNOCHA tweeted.

One of the UN’s country-based pooled funds is the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund. Contributions are gathered into a single, undesignated fund that is then locally controlled by the UN.

Afghanistan’s poverty and unemployment have increased due to the country’s political unrest and drought.

Germany’s aid comes as more than 22 million people, or more than half of the country’s population, are experiencing extreme hunger, with the majority unable to predict when their next meal will be, according to the United Nations World Food Program.
