Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, discussing the evolving situation in Afghanistan and emphasizing the “constructive engagement and practical cooperation” with the Taliban’s caretaker government.

The Interim Afghan government must continue to be constructively engaged with to advance the aim of sustainable peace and security in the region, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 22.

The foreign minister underlined Pakistan’s support for an Afghanistan that is tranquil, prosperous, and connected.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian special envoy to Afghanistan, remarked that Pakistan relations were highly valued in Iran. He recognized Pakistan’s beneficial contributions to Afghanistan.

He stressed that long-term prosperity and development in the region depended on peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Both parties placed emphasis on new business endeavors in the region and described ongoing interaction with the Taliban as a justified approach.

Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, also urged the international community to improve relations with the interim Taliban government earlier this week.

This occurs at a time when, in reaction to the deadly flash floods brought on by heavy rains, Pakistan sent emergency humanitarian supplies to assist people impacted in eastern Afghanistan.
